Obituary:
Alvin Lester Melton, 87 of Cabool, MO passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, MO with family by his side. He was born on December 26, 1925 near Kensington, KS, the first child of Richard and Lucy (Vaughn) Melton.
Alvin spent most of his adult life on his farm near Elk Creek, MO where he began as a dairy farmer. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline Heckel in April of 1956 and together they raised two sons. Later he converted to a beef cattle farm while working for Brown Shoe Factory.
Alvin was very proud of his service to his country. He served in the Army 13 th Airborne as a paratrooper in WWII. Although, he never saw active combat, he was training in Europe to enter Japan at the time the war ended.
After his loving wife of 39 years, Jacqueline, passed away in 1996, he spent many quality years with his special friend and companion, Irene Maness. She, her sons, Ron (Delores) Maness and Rick (Michelle) Maness and their families brought much happiness to his later years.
Alvin enjoyed watching classical movies and the History Channel. He loved discussing historical facts and events while spending time with family and friends.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Nellie Melton; loving wife, Jacqueline; sister, Doris Harris; grandsons, Rick and Tony Melton and special companion, Irene Maness. He is survived by his sons, Neil Melton of Florida and John Melton and wife, Phyllis of Indiana; a sister, Joan Wake and husband, Leroy of Cabool; a brother, Donald Melton and wife, Mary of Michigan; three grandchildren, Ryan Melton and wife, Bernadette of Colorado, Lora Ertmoed and husband, Matthew of Indiana and Donnette Melton of Florida; four great grandchildren, Destin Melton of Florida and Ethan, Isaac and Chloe Melton of Colorado; as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
