April Joyce Bloom passed away on August 16, 2021 at the age of 94. She was born on April 18, 1927 in Port Byron, IL the daughter of Henry and Josephine (Olson) Boecher and was the youngest of ten children. She was known as "Bubbles" to her family and friends. She grew up in Port Byron and graduated high school there. After graduation she worked as a telephone switchboard operator.
April married Richard Otis Bloom on July 12, 1947; they shared 58 years of marriage and raised 9 children. they lived in Cordova, IL where they farmed for many years. April worked side by side with Richard plowing, planting and harvesting crops. They also operated a dairy and raised hogs. They eventually moved to Missouri and settled in Cabool. She worked various factory jobs over the years but especially enjoyed her position at the forest service in Houston, MO.
April loved reading and studying the Bible. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1974 in Cedar Rapids, IA. She enjoyed making and decorating cakes, wedding cakes being her specialty. She enjoyed crocheting, growing flowers and playing card games on the computer. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
April was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; two sons, Allan Richard and Alan Walter and a grandson, TJ. She is survived by her children, Sharon Bloom of Norwood, MO, Janis (Doug) Nimmick of Lost Nation, IA, William "Skip" (Renee) Bloom of Mtn. View, MO, Susan (Darrell) Lay of Cabool, MO, Mary Jo Hickman of Summersville, MO, Jessica Bloom of Berwick, ME and Brandon Bloom of Houston, MO; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
