Obituary:

Barbara Joan Haywood, 76 of Cabool, MO passed away on May 24, 2015 at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was born on Sept. 3, 1938 in Bell Gardens, CA the daughter of Paul and Barbara (Butts) Freeman.

Joan's mother passed away in 1944, after her mother's death her father married Helen Summers Freeman in 1946. The family moved from California to Cabool in 1947. Joan graduated from Cabool High School in 1956 and upon graduation she returned to California where she met and married Ronald D. Haywood, Sr. on January 31, 1957 and lived in Compton, CA. To this union four children were born. In the summer of 1965, Ronald and Joan returned to Missouri to raise their family in Cabool.

Joan was a long time waitress; she worked at El Rancho Truck Stop and later retired from the Corner Café in Cabool. She never met a stranger and had many faithful customers. If Joan didn't agree with what her customer ordered, she would tell them "you don't want that" and would make another suggestion for them. As her hobbies she loved working outdoors in her rock garden and flowers. She collected antiques and displayed them throughout her home and yard.

At a young age, Joan attended and was baptized at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Panther Creek and she was currently attending the Pleasant Home Freewill Baptist Church.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Ronald Haywood, Sr.; two infant children; a daughter, Sunnie Joi; sisters, Pauline Williams and Lucille Stanley and a brother, Kenneth Summers. She is survived by her son, Ronald Haywood, Jr. of Cabool, her sister, Beverly Hutchison and husband, David of Springfield, MO; her brother, Paul Freeman and wife, Wanda of Cabool; grandchildren, Adam Haywood of Cabool, MO, Heather Reagan of Springfield, MO and Robyn Hong of Cabool, MO; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Joan loved her family and enjoyed having them around and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
