Obituary:
Mrs. Betty Ann Tate, 75, of Cabool, Missouri, passed away at her home on Sunday, September 18, 2011.
She was born on July 24, 1936 in Boaz, Alabama, the daughter of Martin and Grace (Leeth) Holland. She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in business.
Betty was united in marriage to Francis Tate of Cabool in 1977.
Betty was very involved in the Cabool community. She served as a board member and director of Cabool Area Chamber of Commerce where she received the Woman of the Year Award; she served on Cabool Revitalization Group and received a certificate of merit from Gov. John Ashcroft during the Missouri Community Betterment Awards; she was a volunteer as well for many projects and events, Farm Fest, Christmas parade, Cabool Head Start, Antique Day, FFA, YMCA and the Neighborhood Assistance Program.
Betty and Francis built the Cabool Super 8 Motel in 1993, retiring from there in 2008.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis in 2004; one son, Erin Tate; and three brothers.
She is survived by eight children, Debra Simons of Cabool, Cindy Hornsby of Ozark, Missouri, Virgil "Chip" Hornsby of Fairbanks, Alaska, David Hornsby and wife Roberta of Springfield, Missouri, Janet Dutton of West Plains, Missouri, Glenda Hoots and husband Jerry of Cabool, Kathy Mackey and husband Roger of Oregon, and Eric Tate and wife Robin of Cabool; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Diemart and husband Jon of Kansas.
