He loved to hunt and fish; he was an avid deer and coon hunter. Every summer, he would take the family on a trip to Lawrence, Kansas where his aunt and uncle lived so he could catch some big catfish.
He loved driving a truck and his kids have fond memories of going with him. Everyone who knew him knew he was always picking and teasing at you. He enjoyed joking with people. He loved kids and teaching them to hunt and fish.
He was united in marriage to Barbara Williams and to this union 3 children were born, Carl Eugene (who died in infancy), Cheryl and Beth. He also accepted Barbara's son Jimmy and was a good stepfather to him. He and Barbara later divorced. He then married Marcy Sparbel and they had one child together, Gary Perkins.
He accepted Marcy's other two children, Stephen Sparbel and Samantha Sparbel, becoming very close to Samantha as the years progressed. He and Marcy later divorced. The past year of his life, he had moved to Neosho Missouri to be near his sister, Mary; they formed a close bond.
