Obituary

Dallas Clayton Lane, 60, of Cabool, MO was born on December 13, 1964, and passed from this life on June 16, 2025. Bo, as he was affectionately known was born to John H. "Jack" and Anita Lane and resided with family in the Cabool area all of his life.

As an infant, Bo had a rough start at life. His older siblings tell of how he was cold and blue after birth and remember heating blankets by the fire to keep him warm. The family came to realize that he had lasting effects from his rough start which just added to his character and made him even more special. Bo never let his disabilities hold him back and he persevered like a trooper.

From a very young age Bo enjoyed music. When he was unable to walk, he would spend hours and hours listening to music and rocking back and forth. Music was food for his soul. He enjoyed classic country music but was open to other genres of music as well including modern country, bluegrass, and Cajun music and even a little rock and roll thrown in at times. Bo seemed to have a deeper spiritual connection than most, perhaps because of his rough start in life. He was so deeply touched by gospel music that he could not listen to it as it stirred such strong emotions he wept. He chose to celebrate life through happy music that brought him joy. It was through the RFD channel that Bo discovered Mollie B Polka and he was hooked! He had the privilege of meeting Mollie B at a local concert which was a very special moment in his life.

Bo learned at a young age to get where he wanted to go by scooting around on his bottom and pushing himself across the floor with his good hand. He could flat fly across the floor! Although the doctor's said he would never amount to much, he proved them wrong again and again. He would go on to learn to walk which opened up a whole new world for him. Bo attended the state school in Mountain Grove for a while before it's closing. This was a very happy time in his life and he would come home laughing, telling of stories that happened throughout the day with his school friends. Later Bo attended the sheltered workshop in Houston, until travel was too taxing and he was unable to continue.

Other than music Bo had two loves in life, caps and family. Bo developed a love of caps when his cousin David brought him a Willie Wire Hand Cap from the electric company he worked for. That was the beginning of a life-long obsession with caps. He loved caps and signs and drove his mom half insane having her tear a sign off one cap only to sew it on a different cap. Throughout Bo's life he received caps for special occasions such as birthdays and Christmases and he leaves behind a collection of hundreds of caps, each one special to him. Bo had an intelligent mind and though he never really learned to read, he could tell you what any logo said on any cap or any sign and he could tell you what kind of car or truck everyone drove. He even had a short obsession with Pampers and the Pillsbury Doughboy.

Bo had a vested interest in his family and dearly loved his nieces, nephews and cousins. Like his dad, Bo had a deep love for babies. He would get excited when he found out a baby was on the way in the family. He would ask over and over if it was a girl or boy, what the baby's name was going to be, and what brand of diapers it was going to wear. He loved to hold the babies and would grin from ear to ear with pride. He enjoyed Christmas shopping for his nieces and nephews every year and watching them open their gifts. He followed his nieces and nephews through life, including what cars they drove and what caps they wore and would often gift a cap to one of his nephews, brothers or brother in laws.

After the passing of his parents, Bo lived with his brother Gary and sister Susie who were special in his life. He was also especially fond of his aunt Vida who loved to spoil him with her home cooking. He enjoyed his annual outings to go Christmas shopping with his niece Jennifer and her husband Kenny. In his final months of his life with failing health, he was moved to the Kabul Nursing Home, where he resided until the time of his passing. Even then, Bo continued to make special friends whom he met along the way.

Bo was admired for his ability to find pleasure in simple things. One of Bo's last pleasures in life was having a little cousin named Clayton. It brought him much joy knowing that they shared the same name. Bo lived simple, but he left a big mark on the lives of those he touched. He will forever be loved and missed by the family he leaves behind.

Bo was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Anita Lane, his sister Wanda "Susie" Crook, his nephew Shaun Harvey, great-niece Jaedyn Beavers, and his aunt Vida Brizendine. He is survived by his brothers Mike Light and wife Kelly of Springfield, Dennis Lane and wife Stephanie of Mtn. Grove, and Gary Lane of Cabool, sisters Kathy Harvey and husband Daniel of Winona and Linda McMinn of Cabool, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
