Obituary:

David LeRoy Gillett was born on September 13, 1946 at Cox Hospital in Springfield, MO, the son of the late Lester and Irene (Hale) Gillett. He went to be with Jesus on January 7, 2013 in the presence of his family. He was 66 years of age.

LeRoy grew up in Cabool in the Hamilton Creek area. He was saved at a young age and baptized at Hamilton Creek. He was a member of the Cabool First Baptist Church. He attended Cabool Schools and graduated with the Class of 1964. After graduation he worked for Mid America Dairyman and the Cabool Tire Shop. He then moved to East Gary, IN and began working for Youngstown Sheet and Tube.

LeRoy was united in marriage on June 2, 1973 to Patricia Lynne Sarver. On July 6, 1975 a daughter, Michelle Renee was born. LeRoy's wish was to return to Cabool to raise his family. Upon returning he bought a farm and soon began dairying. On May 24, 1978 a son, Matthew David was born. LeRoy and Pat dairy farmed for 19 years and due to his health they sold the dairy cows and began beef farming. He continued this along with the help of his son.

LeRoy enjoyed his family and daily conversations with his closest friends; Richard, Lloyd and Ed. He had a knack for fixing things; his southern ingenuity was used in countless projects. He was also well known for his wit and sense of humor. He loved a good joke and by the end of the day everyone he knew had heard it. In his younger years LeRoy enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and cars. In his later years he enjoyed riding around the farm in his Ranger checking on cows, his kids and his neighbors. He also developed an interest for the computer and spent many hours surfing the web and playing games. After the grandkids were born, he soon took on the role of babysitting; he spent many a day with them filling them with popcorn, chips and sweet tea. LeRoy was a big man with a big heart. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; an honest hardworking man and a true friend. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Irene Gillett. He is survived by his wife, Pat of the home; daughter, Michelle Wright and husband, DJ; grandsons, Curtis and Carsten; son, Matt Gillett and Amber Rodery and her children, Jakup, Hayden and Owen; one brother, Charles Wayne Gillett and wife, Marjorie of Tolono, IL and their children, Carlos, Rebecca, Kathy, Carol and Earl; as well as a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
