Obituary:

Dorothy Ellen (Adams) Wheat of Springfield, MO; a great saint of God, loved and respected by all who knew her. Ellen joined hands with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the age of 95 years, nine months and 24 days. She was born on November 27, 1916 in Niataze, KS to Earl Clyde and Eliza Mae (Lumley) Adams, who were farmers.

Ellen was a happy and talented child who developed fond memories in a less complicated world where family, friends and simple pleasures were cherished. She knew many hard times in her life, yet never failed to count her blessings. She was a sweet spirit and genteel lady.

Ellen was united in marriage to Arvil Jackson Ice, who was the love of her life on August 5, 1929 in Council Bluffs, IA. To this union two daughters and six sons were born. Ellen and Arvil shared a wonderful life and a beautiful marriage. Arvil went home to be with his Lord and Savior in 1973, and to wait for his bride.

Accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior under an old peach tree in 1937 was the most important day of Ellen's life. She lived a blessed and gifted life in faithful service to the King in numerous ways, including singing, composing songs and poetry, sharing the Word, witnessing, meeting the needs of others and offering a dedicated, steadfast testimony. She was an accomplished seamstress who created many originally designed and beautifully sewn garments.

Ellen married John Crisp in 1978, who passed away in 1989 and V.O. Wheat in 1991, who passed away in 1999. She was also preceded in passing by her father and mother; two brothers, Clyde and Richard; two sons, Larry and Gary; and one daughter, Margaret. She is survived by one daughter, Maxine Scott of Springfield, MO; four sons, Gene Ice of Yellville, AR, Loyd Ice of Sedalia, MO, John Ice of Mtn. Grove, MO and Edward Ice of Broken Arrow, OK; one brother, Burt Sly of Des Moines, IA; 21 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous other relatives and many friends.

Ellen was the delight and heart of her family and an inspiration to them all. Many of her family members became Christians because of her faithful witness. She was a prayer warrior who fought many battles on her knees and knew how to touch the very heart of God. There will be many stars in her crown.
