Obituary:
Today we mourn the loss of Fern Miller, 87, of
Cabool, Missouri.
She passed away on
Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri
from lymphoma.
She was born May 11, 1926
the seventh child of thirteen, to Gilford and Mary Brown of Solo, Missouri. Her
brothers and sisters were Paul (d), Orville (d), Leatha (d), Pearl (d), Jewell
(d), Wade (d), Delmar (d), Elmer (d), Dwaine, Gerald, Roy Dean (d), and
Kay (d) Brown.
She was raised on the farm and had many
chores.
At age 14 she began cooking
three meals a day for the family. Fern was a cook at Midwest, El Rancho, Cabool
Senior Center, Cabool schools and Cabool Nursing Home for many years, retiring
at age 75. She was gifted in the kitchen as anyone who has eaten from her table
can attest.
At age 13, Fern accepted
Christ as her Savior at a revival being held at Newel Church.
She was baptized in Hog Creek behind the
church. She was a Sunday school teacher and program coordinator for many years
at Faith and Hope. Later she moved her membership to Mt. Pisgah.
Fern married Jesse Miller on June 1, 1946 in
Gerard, Kansas.
Jesse passed May 18,
1987and Fern did not remarry.
They had
six boys, Ralph, Harold (d), James, Jerry, Lonny, and Ronald.
Fern leaves many grand, great grand, and
great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends who all
love and miss her.
Her Sunday dinners
will never be forgotten.
Fern did not
have a driver's license and walked or rode the bus to conduct her business. In
the last few years the bus drivers were very important people to her as they
always did the extras, Ralph, Bill, Sam.
Thank you.
