Obituary:

Floyd Edmund Rutter, 88 of Mtn. Grove, MO passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, MO. He was born on August 14, 1927 the son of Edmund and Anna (Cooper) Rutter.

Floyd grew up on a farm in the "Spotted Hog" community south of Mtn. Grove. He was drafted into the Army on Jan. 3, 1946 where he served as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division. When he was released from the Army he returned to Mtn. Grove and his parents.

Floyd was united in marriage to Betty Collins on May 27, 1950 and to this union a daughter, Annette was born.

Floyd spent most of his working years driving trucks. He retired form Dodds Truck Lines after 27 years with them; after retirement he spent the next several years driving milk trucks for Rex Kelly and Ivan Arthur. His nickname was "Rattler", a very fitting nickname because he would talk to anyone about anything.

Floyd was a member of the Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove. He loved to hunt and fish but when his grandkids came along everything else took a backseat. He and Betty rearranged their lives so they could be part of everything Eric and Emily were involved in.

Floyd was diagnosed with cancer in 2000 which he successfully battled. In 2005 he suffered a massive stroke that left him severely disabled. He and Betty moved to the Landmark Villa in Cabool in 2009. After Betty's passing in 2014, Floyd moved to the Kabul Nursing Home where he resided at the time of his passing.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; two brothers, Marion and Orville; five sisters, Jane, Maude, Edna, Eunice and Nellie; and one great granddaughter, Kayden Lea Sloan. He is survived by his daughter, Annette Sloan and husband, Norris of Mtn. Grove; grandchildren, Eric Sloan and wife, Kayla of Houston, MO and Emily Gariss and husband, Cody of Lamar, MO; great grandchildren, Kenzi and Stryker Sloan and Grady and Emory Gariss; brothers-in-law, Jim Collins and wife, Sheryl and Larry Collins and wife, Trevia, Fred Collins and wife Deanna, Jack Collins and wife, Carolyn and Jerry Sanders; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Floyd will be truly missed by all who knew him. He never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face and a "gift" to talk.
