Obituary:

Mrs. Freda Arlene (Grogan) Westman, 62 of Elk Creek, MO passed away on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 at the St. Francis Hospital in Mtn. View, MO. She was born on Feb. 11, 1948 in Grogan, MO the daughter of Archie and Jewell (Shelton) Grogan.

Freda was raised on the family farm in Grogan, which would become known as Elk Creek in later years. She attended grades 1-4 at the Grogan Grade School, a one room country school where her father had also attended. She graduated from Cabool High School in 1966. Freda obtained an Associate Degree at Ricks' College in Rexburg, ID, with an emphasis in piano and music. She then enrolled in the nursing program at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT; this is when she met her eternal companion, Ronald Lynn Westman, and never completed her program.

Freda was united in marriage to Ronald on April 6, 1978 in Springville, UT and they were sealed in the Manti Utah Temple on April 8, 1978. In 1986 they returned to the family farm near Elk Creek. She enrolled in the Medical Technology program at the Texas County Technical Institute in Houston, MO and graduated valedictorian of her class.

Freda had a variety of interests including music, science, sewing, art and farming.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Jewell Grogan. She is survived by her husband Ronald Lynn Westman of Elk Creek, MO; one brother, Dallas Grogan of Harrison, AR; five sisters, Lois Jane Ostlund of Orem, UT, Glenda Atkisson of Houston, MO, Linda Rennick and husband, Jerry of Dixon, MO, Betty French and husband, Terry of Western Grove, AR and Caroline Grogan of Niangua, MO; nieces, Sherry, Darra, Linda, Beth, Elissa, Teela, Makayla and Allexis; and her nephews, Jimmy, Archie, Richard, Samuel and Silas. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
