Obituary:

Janis Mesenbrink Hobbs was born June 11, 1934 in Hinsdale, IL to Wilhelm Robbert and Vera Louise (Andermann) Mesenbrink.  She departed this world at Cox Hospital in Springfield, MO on December 10, 2020 at the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 10 days.

Janis and her family moved from Hinsdale IL to Kirkwood, MO for her father's work in the banking business, which brought him to the Ozarks.  He fell in love with the area and went on to purchase a farm in Cabool.  During these visits to the farm Janis met a local young man that lived on a nearby farm and their relationship grew.

Janis married Lester Leroy Knapp on December 19, 1954 in Kirkwood, MO.  To his union of marriage, three sons were born, Andrew, Michael, and Roy.

Janis worked for the Cabool School System for many years.  She started in the office area and then decided to finish her degree and follow her heart to teach full time.  Janis was able to complete her degree on August 1, 1981, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and continued to complete her master's degree.

Janis was introduced to Donald Ray Hobbs by mutual friends and on December 16, 1983 they were united in marriage in Cabool, MO.  With the uniting of families, she now had another son, Brian and a daughter, Jeri.  She and Don enjoyed their motorcycle adventures with their friends and visiting other family members in various states.

Janis and Don decided to retire and moved to Rockaway Beach,MO; this move was another wonderful chapter to her life.  She enjoyed hosting family and friends and trips to Silver Dollar City, spending the day fishing on the pontoon and then frying the trout for dinner.

Janis was active in her community; church and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society where she was President 1996-1998. After her sister, Robberta, moved to Rockaway Beach they enjoyed quilting, painting, and performing with their harps and dulcimers.

Janis was preceded in death by her sister, Gretchen.  She is survived by her husband, Donald R. Hobbs; Sister, RobbertaMesenbrink of Rockaway Beach, MO.  Sons, Andrew, and Michael Knapp (Renae) of Cabool, MO; Roy Knapp (Christina) of Columbia; Brian Hobbs (Marilyn) of Strafford, MO and daughter, Jeri Welch of Kansas City, MO.  Twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren with another one on the way and one great, great grandchild.

Janis will be missed by family and friends. She always greeted others with a smile that will be fondly remembered.  She always put her all into anything she did. She strongly felt that anything worth doing was worth doing well.
