Joan Mary Melton Wake, born on November 5, 1943, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026.

Joan was the beloved daughter of the late Nellie R. Melton and Richard Melton. She dedicated her life to caring for others through her work in the nursing profession, where her compassion, kindness, and gentle spirit touched countless lives.

On May 20, 1964, Joan married the love of her life, Leroy Wake. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment and partnership until Leroy's passing.

Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leroy Wake; her cherished son, James Wake; her parents, Nellie R. Melton and Richard Melton; and her siblings, Donald Melton, Alvin Melton, and Doris Harris.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Roger Wake and his wife, Lisa Wake; her daughter-in-law, Nina Wake; her grandchildren, Roger L. Wake, Chad Smith, Amanda Cantrell, and Lacey Austin; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Rainy Jarrett, Cadence Jarrett, Daeton Wake, Gavin Wake, Trysen Wake, Cody Smith, Corey Smith, Gatson Austin, Truitt Austin, and Darby Austin. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Missy, along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing her.

Joan had a remarkable talent for crocheting and could seemingly create anything with her hands. She found great joy in making beautiful handmade gifts for her family, friends, and anyone in need. Her generosity knew no bounds, and the blankets, keepsakes, and treasured items she lovingly crafted will continue to bring comfort and joy for generations to come.

She was also known for her wonderful sense of humor. Joan had a gift for making others laugh, lifting spirits with her quick wit, warm smile, and loving heart. Her laughter and kindness made everyone around her feel welcomed and loved.

Joan's life was defined by service, compassion, and unconditional love. Whether caring for patients, spending time with her family, or sharing her talents with others, she made a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will never be forgotten.

Although our hearts are heavy with her passing, we find comfort in the many memories she leaves behind and in the love she shared so freely throughout her life. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, faith, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
