Obituary:

Joe Vern Hensley, age 76, of Cabool, Missouri, left this world to be with Jesus on December 5, 2014. Joe was the son of Leonard and Agie White Hensley and the loving husband of Glenda Hovey Hensley. He passed away at his home in Cabool after a valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Glenda, his daughter Gayla and husband Glenn of Republic, Missouri, and his three sons Randy and wife Kathy of West Plains, Missouri, Kevin and wife Valerie, and Kelly and wife Missy, all of Cabool. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and three nephews Keith, Mark and Bruce Hovey.

Joe was saved and baptized at a young age and was a lifelong member of Bridges Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Elijah, Missouri. While starting life with his young family, Joe worked as a service manager for Stein Buick in West Plains. This gave Joe a thorough background for one of his favorite hobbies of auto mechanics and auto body and restoration. His love of classic cars led him to become a member of the Southern Missouri Cruisers Car Club in later years.

In 1969, Joe accepted a position with the Missouri State Highway Patrol as a weigh inspector at the old G-1 weigh station in Cabool. In 1974, he transferred to the Driver Examiner Section. As a driver examiner he was able to share his boundless knowledge and life skills with so many young adults.

After retiring from the Patrol in 1998, Joe went on to drive trucks for CTL in Cabool on a part-time basis. He enjoyed visiting with his numerous friends and colleagues wherever his truck driving took him.

Joe's love of people and places was manifested in every aspect of his life. From visiting with his kids and grandkids at family dinners to traveling across the country, his passion for life and his vast knowledge of all things was a bright light shared with so many. Joe was a true blessing that God gave to his family, friends and the numerous acquaintances who were touched by him. He will forever be fondly remembered by all who called him "friend".
