Obituary:

John W. Creed, son of the late Sterling and Fredia (Bowler) Creed, was born on November 8, 1921 in Mtn. Grove, MO and departed this life on May 3, 2012 at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 25 days at his home with his loved ones by his side.

John grew up in the Mtn. Grove area and joined the US Army in October of 1942. He proudly served his country in WWII in Japan and the Philippines. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for his campaigns in 1945 and he also received a Good Conduct Medal before ending his tour of duty. He was a lifelong member of the VFW. He later spent time in Colorado in the Loveland, Greely and Fort Collins areas. He worked in a canning factory for a time and was also a truck driver for many years. He then returned to Mtn. Grove where he became a watchmaker for Hubbard's Jewelry. He continued this profession with Clary's Jewelry and later opened his own shop known as John's Watch Repair until ill health forced him to retire in April 2007.

John enjoyed going to the senior citizens center and playing pool with his many friends, going to the café to eat, fishing, going to the lake and spending time with his family. Nothing made his eyes light up more than when one of his grandchildren or great grandchildren came to spend time with "Pa John". John was united in marriage to Shirley Sellars Nettleton on August 3, 1974 and made her family his own for 37 years.

John was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Wanda Creed, Ruby Hopkins, Dorthy Manley and Gladys Creed; two brothers, Joe Creed and Leon Creed; two sons, Dick Creed and George Creed and one daughter, Debbie Mings. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley of the home; two sons, Ralph Nettleton and wife, Doris of Mtn. Grove and Jack Creed of Colorado; three daughters, Robin, Judy and Karen of Colorado; one brother, Ivan Creed of Fulton, MO; four special grandchildren, Shannon McGowan, who was also his "nurse" and her husband, Kevin of Mtn. Grove, Shane Nettleton and wife, Tyann of Mtn. Grove, Chris Synder of Wichita, KS, Cheree Linton and husband, Josh of Kansas City, MO; as well as other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends that will sadly miss him. John was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and friend. He leaves behind a large void in our lives and some big shoes to fill. We love and we will miss you "Pa John".
