Obituary:

Larry Joe Lane, son of the late Guy Lane and Dora Babbitt (Lane) Ratterree, was born on September 17, 1956 in Cabool, Missouri and departed this life on February 11, 2019 at his home in Mountain Grove, MO.  He was 62 years old.

Joe, as he liked to be called, grew up in Cabool until he met his sweetheart, Shelia Gamby.  The two were joined in marriage July 5, 1975 and made their home in Mountain Grove. Two children were born into this union: Brandie Jo and Amber Dawn.

Joe loved to be around his family. He always enjoyed family gatherings and birthday celebrations – his favorite being when homemade ice cream was made. He loved to fish in his younger years, tend to his vegetable garden, go antiquing, and search for 'buried treasure' at yard sales and flea markets.  He also had a great love for music and there was never a time his record player or stereo wasn't going.

Joe was diagnosed with MS in his early twenties. When he was unable to work, he volunteered through the MS Society with "Tele-a-Friend" making phone calls to others with MS, fundraisers, and volunteered at the local senior center doing Meals on Wheels. Even on his worst days, he refused to give up on himself or allow MS to take over his life. He was always grateful for another day.

In his early fifties, Joe came to know Jesus and accept Him as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized on Easter Sunday April 8, 2012 and had never been prouder. He made sure to share his testimony with everyone he met.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Guy Lane; mother, Dora Ratterree and step-father, Lee Ratterree.  He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shelia Gamby Lane of the home; two daughters, Brandie Spanton and husband, Kenny of Mtn. Grove and Amber Rouse and husband, Curtis of Cabool; six grandchildren, Casey, Breanna (Bree-Bree), Ty, Gatlin Jo, Adi Mae and Savannah; one brother, David Lane and his wife, Faith of Cabool; two sisters, Laura Lane Rust of Nixa and Kim Elliott of Cabool; four step brothers, Don, Tommy, Junior and Terry Ratterree; sister-in-law, Kathy Berkheimer of Mtn. Grove and his best friend and bro, Chuck Nelson of Austin, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.  Though we are sad to see him go, we know he is now walking and possibly running the streets of gold.

The family would like to send a special thank you to his caretakers: Deena Sell , Michelle Wehrer, Hospice Compassus and Dr. McPherson for their support and care throughout the years.
