Obituary:

Nadia Alice (Christy) Jackson Wise, 88 of Pomona, MO passed away at her home on Sunday, August 25, 2013 following a long illness. She was born on December 31, 1924 the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Frances (Martin) Christy.

Nadia quickly learned to work hard and to be frugal growing up during the depression in a family with 7 siblings on a farm near Fremont. She completed her high school education at Mtn. View while doing housework for a family friend. Her first job was at MFA as a clerk.

She began teaching at a young age in a one room public school; where some students were larger than her petite frame. According to a former student, they knew who was in charge of the classroom. She was little but mighty. She completed her formal education doing correspondence class and traveling to night school in Springfield, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from SMS. During her teaching career she taught at Liberty Grove, Ridgeview, Willow Springs and finished at Carmical in West Plains; teaching the 3 rd grade.

Following her retirement after 30 years of teaching she enjoyed traveling taking bus tours. She also went on a cruise to Hawaii with her sister, Loetta Dowell. At home, she spent a great deal of time gardening and taking care of her yard until the age of 86. She enjoyed growing a variety of vegetables and flowers.

Nadia provided care for both of her husbands during their final illness. She married Harry Edward Jackson in April of 1946 and after his passing she was married to Forrest Wise in 1992.

Nadia lived a modest lifestyle but was very generous in her support of Pomona Christian Church where she enjoyed participating in quilting with the Ladies Aid for many years. She also supported missionary endeavors. Nadia Wise loved her Savior Jesus Christ and taught children to love Him too in Sunday school class.

Nadia was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry in October of 1979 and Forrest in June of 1997; her siblings, Dorothy Lawrence, Lucille Knight, Carl and Melvin Christy and two infant brothers; and a granddaughter, Misty Dawn Hawkins. She is survived by her children, Linda Marie Hawkins and husband, Gary of Stotts City, Harry Edward Jackson and wife, Judy of Pomona and Donald Lee Jackson of Murphy, TX; seven grandchildren, Shanna Hawkins Pennington, Joshua Jackson, Amanda Jackson Johnson, Brandon Hawkins, Kenny Jackson, Kevin Jackson and Todd Jackson who all enjoyed spending time at Christmas and playing ball during the summer for many years; and eight great grandchildren.
