Obituary:
Phyllis A. (East) Mitchell, daughter of James G. and Anna (Jarrett) East was born on September 2, 1924 in Texas County, MO and passed away on March 12, 2013 at the Kabul Nursing Home.
Phyllis grew up on a farm north of Cabool and attended Sunday School and Church at the Hamilton Creek Baptist Church. She attended her first 4 years of school at the "One Room School, Freely Give", and finished the rest of grade school and high school in Cabool, graduating with the class of 1943.
She was saved at an early age in a revival at the Providence Church and later was baptized. After graduating, during WWII, she was employed at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS. Soon after the war, she enrolled in Draughans Business College in Springfield and was hired by Lily Tulip/Owens, Illinois and after many years retired from Owens, IL. Phyllis then moved back to Texas County and to Mtn. Grove, and when able she again attended the church of her childhood, Hamilton Creek Baptist Church.
Phyllis loved all flowers and worked hard caring for them; her favorite flower came from her mother, it is tall, yellow and only blooms in October but the name is unknown. Although she had no children, she dearly loved her nephews and niece.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Falus J. East; sisters, Elsie East Altis, Effie East Card, M. Marie East Powers and Stella East Kelly; nephews, Jimmie East, Neil East, Harold Altis, Klifton Altis and Raymond Goode. She is survived by Wanda East of Cabool, MO; nephews, J.D. East of Aurora, MO, Dallas East and wife, Midori of Cabool, MO; niece, Rebecca East Berry and husband, Rick of West Plains, MO; Ruth Mary Altis, Jimmy Ray Powers and Billie of Independence, MO; Leota and Velda Kelly and husbands of Springfield, MO; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews; cousins, Ileene Harmon, the Streets family, Lena, Lawanta, Earl, Roy and Melva. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
