Obituary:

Ray Pippen, 85 of Cabool, MO passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, MO. He was born on June 1, 1926 in Kansas City, MO the son of Ray Pippen, SR. and Edna M. (Archer) Pippen Cox.

At the age of 2 years, Ray's father lost his life in a train-truck accident and Ray and his mother returned to Cabool to make their home. He attended Cabool Schools; graduating with the Class of 1944. After graduating, he entered the US Army where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant before being discharged in 1946 at the end of WWII.

Ray graduated from Missouri State College in Springfield, MO in 1950; while in college he met Audrey Johnson and they were united in marriage on Dec. 26, 1948. Following graduation, they lived in St. Louis until he had the opportunity for a sales position with the Blue Grass Insurance Agency in Lexington, KY. He took ownership of the agency in 1958. During his business years, Ray was active in several business organizations and the Lion's Club. Ray retired in 1984 and the agency is still existent under the ownership and management of a son.

Lexington remained their home through the years where they parented six children; one daughter and five sons. He joined his wife in embracing the Catholic Faith and with their family they attended Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lexington.

Ray enjoyed traveling, camping, family gatherings and good food. He traveled to Cabool often to visit his mother while she was still living, as well as other relatives and friends.

On Oct. 11, 2003, Ray and Carol JoAnn Clary were united in marriage; both were former classmates of Cabool High School. They had the pleasure of building and living in their dream log home for six years, surrounded by God's creation of nature.

Ray was preceded in death by his father, Ray Pippen, SR.; his mother, Edna (Pippen) Cox; step-father, Lester Cox; a son-in-law, Ray Hall; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife, Carol JoAnn of the home; sisters, Lenna L. Watts and husband, Dale of Pekin, IL and Della S. Kirkman of Cabool, MO; his daughter, Paula Rae Pippen of Lexington, KY; his sons, Brian Pippen and wife, Mary of Lexington, KY, Scott Pippen and wife, Carol of NIcholsville, KY, Kevin Pippen and wife, Susan of Georgetown, KY, Richard Pippen and wife, Mary of Louisville, KY and Craig Pippen and wife, Liana of Russelle Springs, KY; three stepchildren by marriage, Bruce Clary, Kevin Clary and Colleen Estep; 20 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
