Obituary:

Richard Warren Bauman, known by his friends as "Dick", was born in Detroit, Michigan October 14, 1936 and passed peacefully June 13, 2013 at his home near Cabool, Missouri at the age of 76. His parents were Stanley J. Bauman and Bernice (Varney) Bauman. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; a younger brother, Russell and a grandson, Stanley Charles Bauman. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Sims) Bauman; sons, Warren J , Joseph W. and wife, Kathy of Cabool, Jeffrey B. and wife, Jeannie of Weaubleau, MO; daughters, Jeri R and husband, Brad Gault of Buckner, MO and Kelly L. and husband, Tim Canfield of Sibley, MO; a brother, Jim and wife, Sharron of Charlotte, Michigan; a sister, Susan and husband, Rod Ebersole of Madras, Oregon; along with seven living grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Dick graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, Michigan in 1954. At the age of 15-16, he attended a church camp and dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. He later attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa where he met Barbara and they were married July 19, 1957. After several years he continued his education at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan where he received a Bachelor of Science majoring in Natural Resources; also a Master of Arts majoring in Outdoor and Community Recreation with post graduate studies in Community Education. Dick worked as a Community School Director in Fremont, Michigan and Edmore, Michigan before becoming a Doctoral Fellow at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon where he assisted the Dean of College of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance in teaching Administration, Organization and Supervision. His Doctorate studies were Administration and Outdoor Recreation and Leisure Services. He also was head of the Dept. of Recreation for DesMoines Area Community College at the Boone, Iowa Campus for a short time.

Dick was raised in a family who loved the outdoors, camped, fished, hunted, and gathered much of their food in the wild. He was active in Conservation clubs and also worked as a State Park Naturalist at Ludington State Park in Michigan. His jobs and education took the family to Minnesota, Iowa, Oregon, and Missouri. The last 19 years have been near Cabool, Missouri where he retired to continue raising Nationally known Nubian dairy goats and miniature Hereford cattle. He was a lifetime member of the American Dairy Goat Association and has an honorary degree of Doctorate in Animal Sciences from the International Miniature Cattle Breeders Society. He had several articles published by the leading dairy goat magazines and IMCBS. He and Barbara also wrote and published a small magazine – The Christian Goatherd.
