Obituary:

Robert Wiley Currier, Jr., 77, passed away early morning, Friday, October 23, 2020 with his wife and two daughters by his side.  "Bob" was born in Mason City, Iowa on October 7 th , 1943 to parents Robert Currier, Sr. and Maxine (Lockhart) Currier.  Bob spent his early years in Leadville, CO where his father worked in the mines.  The family later moved to Nodaway County, MO where his parents remained until their passing.  Bob moved to Cabool in the 1990s.  He loved this part of the Ozarks.  This is where he felt at "home".

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Carolyn Gibbs.  He is survived by his loving wife Carol, proud daughters Wendi of Mountain Grove and Tricia and son-in-law John of Ojai, CA.; as well as his grandchildren Jeremy in TN and Brenna in CA and great-grandchildren Caleb and Ethan, both in TN.  The grandkids all adored their "Pop".

Bob eagerly joined the Marines at the age of 17 and proudly served for six and a half years.  He was stationed in CA and did two tours of duty in Vietnam.  After his honorable discharge from the military, Bob returned to Missouri and spent the next 28 years as a State Trooper.  As a trooper he patrolled the road,worked undercover in the narcotics division, worked as a detective, and then as a driver examiner/CDL Supervisor.  Bob also enjoyed his position as a firearm instructor for the Highway Patrol.  After retiring from the patrol, he later returned to law enforcement and worked as a Deputy for the Texas County Sherriff's Department and then an officer for the Houston Police Department. He later ran the licensing office in Cabool. He dedicated his years with us in service to his fellow countrymen.  Bob had also been a member of the Cabool Christian Church for the past 19 years.

Bob was an avid hunter and marksman.  He was a member of the NRA, North American Hunting Club, VFW, and the USPSA.  He loved the outdoors; he was the happiest when he could be outdoors doing what he loved, hunting and fishing and shooting at the range.  He enjoyed hunting elk in Arizona, deer in Missouri and Arizona and turkey in his own back yard.  His proudest hunt was in August 2011.  He had won the Arizona Governor's mule deer tag. He spent most of that year hunting in northern Arizona on the "Arizona Strip".  In the end, he brought home a beautiful 17-point buck (Boone and Crockett score, 211 points).  He was often found with a camera in his hand rather than a rifle.  He loved photography.  He had an eye for capturing the perfect shot; most often of wildlife or foliage.

He was a man of few words, a gentle giant.  He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
