Obituary:

Robert "Bob" Smith, loving Father, Grandfather, Husband and Brother, passed away December 12th 2016 at the age of 77 after a lengthy battle with kidney failure. He was born on February 13th 1939 in Kansas City, MO the son of Robert Sr. and Naomi (Cushman) Smith.  He was a long time resident of Mt. Grove and previous owner of Country Express Convenience Stores.

Throughout his life he was driven by his need to care. Whether for his country in the Army, or caring to the daily needs of his farm; he could always be seen tending to something.

He brought a steadiness to the family and joy to us all. Always ready with a story to tell, always willing to teach us how to fish, hunt, and play marbles or mushroom hunt. There is no competition; he was the best mushroom hunter in the Midwest. Most of all, we are thankful for how much he cared and loved Bonnie, his wife of 39 years. One of the best teams in life will now resume in heaven. We are deeply saddened by his departure, but know they are happy to be reunited and together again.

Robert is survived by his children, Elaine Smith, Vince Via, Marty Via and wife, Kim and Tanya Pullum and husband, Stacy; his sister, Barbara Thomison and husband, Charles; his brother, Ben Smith; nephew, Douglas Thomison; nieces, Laura Patrick and Cindy Schmiedeler.  He also leaves behind grandchildren, Cassandra Doty and husband, Gordon, Dale Wert and Eli Wert, Sarrah Pullum, Stacia Pullum, Gracie Pullum, Emma Pullum, Christina Smith, Jennifer Taylor and Courtney Odle; great grandsons,  Jaxson Smith, Layne Smith and Brady Taylor.  He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
