Ruth Aileen Mayfield, 94 of Springfield, MO passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at her home. She was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 25, 1922.
Aileen was the daughter of Bill and Ruth Fredrick, proprietors of the popular Fredrick's Café.  She attended 12 years of school in Cabool, MO.  While attending high school, she was majorette in the Cabool High School Marching Band, and was active in other school activities, which culminated in her receiving a college scholarship for her prowess in volleyball.

She eloped with Robert E. Mayfield on Christmas Eve 1940 and the happily, newly wedded couple moved to San Diego, California. They later returned to Springfield, Mo, where they raised three children; Barbara, Jim and Bob, Jr., while Robert became involved in the automobile sales business.

Aileen was active in the community and her children remembered her as one of the most beautiful Moms in the Phelps PTA. She was a compassionate, nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. When the children were "growing up," she would often chauffeur them and their friends to ongoing events such as the Junior Olympics Swim Meet in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She made their household a comforting environment with cooking skills she learned from her parents, and taking care of their every other need. Throughout her life, people she encountered would often comment about her heartwarming smile. Her life was always about "Family!" Known to her grandchildren as "Mamma," they all knew that a trip to her house on Grand Lake, in Grove, Oklahoma, would be a warm, welcome, fun, full candy dish celebration, especially during Christmas, egg dying time at Easter, or birthdays when the whole family would rendezvous. The world was like a welcoming oasis in the desert; a safe harbor when in her presence. The children knew that every day spent with Mamma in her nest would create a spirit lifting experience they would never forget. Those memories will live on forever, and everyone in the family is grateful for the gifts she bestowed. So many wonderful moments were shared.
