Obituary:

Steven George L. Gilbert, 95 of Willow Springs, MO and formerly of West Plains, MO passed away on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011 at the Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs, MO. He was born on January 20, 1916 in Osawatomie, KS the son of George L. and Mary A. (Getchell) Gilbert.

George entered the US Army in 1947 and began a career in the military; serving during WWII and Korea where he received a Purple Heart. He retired from the Army on February 28, 1970 after more than 22 years of honorable service.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal M. Gilbert and a grandson, Jeffrey C. Schoeninger. He is survived by 5 children, 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
