Wanda Joyce "Powell" Barr was born August 13, 1929 in Concho County , Texas. Wanda passed away at her home in Sargent, Missouri on May 5, 2019 at the age of 89 years. Wanda was one of five children born to George Chester Powell and Altha "Crouch" Powell . She graduated from Paint Rock Highschool in Paint Rock , Texas.
Wanda married her husband Billy D. Barr on June 22, 1946 in San Angelo , Texas. Together they purchased land in Brownwood , Texas and raised cattle. They later moved to Cabot , Arkansas in 1956. In 1958 they had their only child Bernal. In 1965 the family moved to Sargent, Missouri, purchasing land and continuing in the cattle business and later opening a tractor business. They raised their son and watched their family grow into in-laws , and grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she dearly loved.
Over the years Wanda often worked in the retail business. Wanda loved animals and gardening. She was as vibrant as the flowers she lovingly nurtured and loved. She had a joy for cooking and feeding all who stepped into her home. She would say, " My Daddy always said, ' Don't bother cooking if your not gunna make enough' ". There was always an abundance of homecooked food at Wanda's table.
After her husband Billy was diagnosed with Alzheimers Wanda took care of him at their home for over 10 years up to his passing in May of 2015.
Wanda was a woman of faith and she loved The LORD. She was an active member of The Church of Christ in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was a member of "The Red Hats" , "The X,Y,Z club" , and " The Republican Ladies". She loved and cherished her time spent with her friends and all of the activities they took part in together. Wanda also enjoyed spending her spare time volunteering at the S.O.S. Thrift Store in Cabool, Missouri.
Wanda remained active and independent her entire life and up to her very last day. She was loved by all who knew her. Wanda was loving, generous, and full of the love of living life. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Chet and Altha Powell, brother Noel, her sister Yvonne, brother Ed, and husband Billy Barr. She is survived by her two brothers Bernie and Victor Powell, her son Bernal Barr and his wife Stella, grandchildren Janelle Barr Basset and her husband Colin, Casey Lynne Barr, Lyric Barr, and great-grandchildren Edith and Joan Bassett as well as many other family and friends.
